Beginner Hikes

Victoria is filled with many amazing hikes and it can be hard to choose which ones to do. Luckily, we've done them, and these are some of the best ones for beginners. Each are just a single night.

Little Waterloo Bay, Wilsons Prom

This hike to Little Waterloo Bay at Wilsons Prom offers a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility. The 22km return trail weaves through lush forests, granite outcrops, and quiet beaches. At the campsite, you’ll find crystal-clear waters and soft sand—an ideal spot to unwind after the day’s trek. While the trail has a few steep sections, the stunning coastal views make every step worthwhile.

Walhalla to Poverty Point Bridge

The overnight hike from Walhalla to Poverty Point Bridge covers approximately 16 kilometers, taking you through scenic Appalachian forests with moderate climbs and beautiful views of valleys and streams. Along the way, you'll pass the historic old cricket ground, adding a touch of local history to the journey. The hike ends at a peaceful camping spot by the river, offering a tranquil setting for a night under the stars.

Neds Gully, Cathedral Ranges

For an unforgettable overnight adventure, hike from Sugarloaf Saddle to Neds Gully and back. This 10km return trail showcases the rugged beauty of the Cathedral Ranges, with steep climbs, rocky ridges, and breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. The riverside campsite at Neds Gully offers a tranquil place to spend the night, surrounded by the sound of flowing water and towering trees. It’s a fantastic choice for intermediate hikers looking for a mix of challenge and stunning scenery.

Blanket Bay, Great Ocean Walk

For a coastal escape, the hike from Shelly Beach to Blanket Bay and back is a perfect overnight adventure. This 20km return trail starts at Shelly Beach and takes you through beautiful coastal forests and rugged clifftops, with plenty of chances to stop and soak in the ocean views. The campsite at Blanket Bay is right by the beach, offering a peaceful spot to relax, watch the sunset, and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. It’s a great option for beginners or those seeking a manageable yet rewarding hike.
